Para comenzar con la corta pero intensa biografia de esta banda afincada en Barcelona, me gustaría empezar hablando de los orígenes de sus miembros. Los componentes de The Cannibal Queen provienen de diferentes lugares del planeta. Ray Varela(Voz y Guitarra) aterrizó en Barcelona ya hace bastantes años cuando un buen día decidió dejar su tierra natal, Australia, donde con su antigua banda SUICIETY grabó un total de cuatro discos teloneando también a bandas tan importantes como BODY COUNT, SEPULTURA, MINISTRY, KREATOR, ALICE IN CHAINS o SUICIDAL TENDENCIES entre otras. Sahlvina(Bajo y voz) llegó desde la vecina Francia, y Carlos Santolobo(Guitarra y Voz) y Jordi Riera (Batería) nacieron en Barcelona y Granollers respectivamente.

Ray y Carlos ya habían tocado juntos en un grupo llamado “Myowngravity”, banda que disfrutó de muy buenos momentos teloneando a grupos como HIM, RASMUS, EVANESCENCE, SEPULTURA, THE 69 EYES, o PROJECT PITCHFORK entre otros. Y para entender la unión de estos cuatro músicos también habría que mencionar que tanto Jordi como Sahlvina también conocían a Ray desde hacía tiempo ya que les unía una gran amistad, a partir de aquí todo fue tan fácil como una simple llamada de teléfono. Esa llamada realizada por Ray al resto de miembros a mediados de 2008 sería el pistoletazo de salida de la carrera de la banda.

En Septiembre de ese mismo año la banda lanza su album de debut, compuesto, grabado, producido y mezclado enteramente por el grupo. Del mastering se encargaría Nick Watson en los FluidMastering Studios de Londres. Nick es conocido por su trabajo junto a bandas como IRON MAIDEN, MOTORHEAD, o WOLFMOTHER, entre otras, y dotó al disco de un sonido final potente y rabioso.

A partir de ahí todo va sin prisa pero sin pausa, la banda trabaja sin parar y poco a poco van recogiendo los frutos de lo sembrado.Obtienen estupendas críticas como las publicadas en ROCKZONE, POPULAR1 o MONDOSONORO, ruedan su primer videoclip, reciben el apoyo de numerosas emisoras de radio como RADIO 3 (ROCK REAKTOR), RADIO ALCAÑIZ (LA COTORRA), RADIO INCONEXO de Madrid y OVELLA NEGRA ROCK RADIO de Barcelona, telonean a DARK TRANQUILLITY en su concierto de la sala Salamandra de Barcelona y pasan a formar parte del cartel del METALWAY FESTIVAL’09.

Para terminar me gustaría hablar un poco del sonido del grupo. Ellos se definen como una banda de Rock que mezcla a partes iguales influencias del Metal y un toque oscuro, pero con la tradición que ha hecho grandes a bandas de la vieja escuela como BLACK SABBATH, METALLICA o AC/DC, aunque en su música también podemos encontrar influencias un poco mas actuales provenientes de grupos como NIN o ALICE IN CHAINS. Todo ello mezclado con una gran dosis de pasión y personalidad da como resultado una banda que no te dejará indiferente.

At a time that pop is dominating by British pop and American Nu metal,
“The Cannibal Queen”brings raw, ugly rock & roll crashing back into the streets.
They are not nice boys And girl.They are ugly, Furious, and passionate; they are also funny,
vulnerable, and occasionally sensitive. While Carlos and Ray ferociously spit out
duelling guitar riffs worthy of Black Sabbath or AC/DC, Ray screams out his tales of sex,
drugs, and apathy in the big city-Barcelona-Spain. Meanwhile, bassist Sahlvina
and drummer Jordi Riera are a limber rhythm section who keeps the music
loose and powerful.

The Cannibal Queen’s music is basic and gritty, with a solid Hard, Rock base;
they are dark, sleazy, dirty, and honest everything that good hard rock and
heavy metal should be. There is something refreshing about a band that can provoke
everything from devotion to hatred, especially since both sides are equally right.

The Cannibal Queen are not new in this routhless world, all members have been around
in various formations together, selling out shows and touring with Big named Bands.
“Suiciety” the singers former band was signed to BMG and toured with BODY COUNT,
SEPULTURA, MINISTRY, KREATOR, ALICE IN CHAINS and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES to name a few.

Also another formation of the singer and guitarist from The Cannibal Queen
was a band called “Myowngravity” which became well known and toured with the likes of:
HIM, RASMUS, EVANESCENCE, SEPULTURA, THE 69 EYES and PROJECT PITCHFORK.
They also were featured as new revalation band for 2006 in “Mondosonoro” “Metal Hammer”
and “Hell Awaits”, doing live show cases on TV “SPUTNIK” and “Radio3”. Radio stations like “Radio3”
and “Radio4” gave them constant Airplay which added to their dedicated following.

The Drummer Jordi also has a long trail of success on his own.
Jordi had appear on most if not all the main TV stations with different rock/Metal formations
and also appeared as guest drummer on records like: Tribute to Jason Becker-
”Warmth in the wilderness” working alongside with artists like, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert,
Vinnie Moore and Marty Freeman. Also he appears on Tony Baena “Burning spirits”
released in Germay, Agentina and Japan.

“The Cannibal Queen” releases their first full length CD in September 15th 2008,
A project that has been nurished by 4 members that totally beleave in what they have
created and are ready to take on the world. This band definitely has something to offer!
